PEMA prepared for Irma possibly hitting Pennsylvania

PEMA, or the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, had a three-hour meeting on Tuesday discussing plans for what could be a disaster in Pennsylvania if the trough continues. Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall in the south eastern USA, then continue northwest over the Appalachian Mountains. Irma is expected to make way into Ohio, causing a large surge of unexpected flooding, according to several models.

“Agencies are being encouraged to examine staffing capabilities and start thinking about state agency resources that could be needed and ways state agencies can support counties to keep citizens safe,” said Ruth Miller, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

If Irma continues along the GFS models like it has, Irma is expected to make way towards Pennsylvania by late next-week. A tropical depression would be the category for the late CAT 5 Hurricane Irma.
