Fire marshal called into W. Fulton Street explosion
December 4, 2017
The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal will be on-scene Monday to conduct a formal and thorough investigation into the cause of the West Fulton Street blaze. Callers to 911 indicated several explosions were heard in the area, then heavy smoke was pouring above Butler City. Investigators were given limited access and information prior to Monday.
Investigators learned that the couple living at the house had a propane grill on the back porch, initially where the fire was seen coming from. However, the fire marshal could not tell if the propane tank was venting, causing the explosion.
The couple was able to escape without injury along with their pet K9, who was reportedly trapped in the second-story. A firefighter was transported by ambulance from the scene due to heat exhaustion.
